West Plains Co. is an agricultural commodity trading business specializing in warehouse operation, risk management, and transportation with a focus on creating value for the company’s producers and consumers. Our customers depend on us to provide market insight, risk management, and logistics support. We are federally licensed and bonded warehousemen that trade whole grains, feed ingredients, freight, and other commodities within North America.
West Plains Co. is headquartered in the Board of Trade building in Kansas City, MO and has twenty-three locations spread across six states. The company controls nearly 20 million bushels of elevator space though ownership or lease agreements.
West Plain’s history dates back to the 1960’s but has experienced its most rapid growth over the last decade:
1962
Former West Plains Co. subsidiaries Cornbelt Grain Co., Inc. and Commodity Traders Inc. founded
1987
West Plains Grain Co. Inc. founded
2000
Cornbelt Grain acquires CT Freight Services and Hackney Ag, a livestock trading group, from the Scoular Company
2001
Cornbelt Grain acquires the operations of Centennial Trading
2002
Cornbelt Grain acquires West Plains Grain which included an interest in the NebKota Railroad
2003
Cornbelt Grain acquires the operations of AG Finder, an organic grain marketing business. West Plains acquires 100% ownership of NebKota Railroad.
2004
West Plains Co. combines the operation of Cornbelt Grain, Commodity Traders, West Plains Grain, and Retlaff Grain into a single corporate entity. NebKota remains wholly owned.
2008
West Plains Co. acquires the operations of Lanphier Grain Business
2009
Lease of Hutchison, KS and Johnstown, CO facilities
2010
Lease of Brownsville, TX, Witten, SD, and the Platner and Briggsdale, CO facilities
